Combining herbs and honey in various ways for culinary or medicinal purposes has been a part of the healing traditions of many different cultures for millennia including the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, as well as Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, Come learn about how you can meld the healing powers of honey with common herbs and spices to enhance your family’s food and beverages while supporting overall health and vitality. We will learn about the healing properties of honey itself as well as cover a materia medica of some commonly used herbs and spices, their herbal actions and properties and how they are best utilized in different preparations in the kitchen or home apothecary. We will learn how to make several different types of herbal preparations using honey including herbal infused honey, herbal syrups, oxymels, and electuaries. All materials will be provided. Participants will receive a handout detailing the properties of the herbs we will be discussing and complete instructions on how to make the various preparations we will be covering in the class. Herbal honey preparations make wonderful hand made gifts for the holidays, hostess or house warming gifts or other special occasions. Cost is $35 per person. Class will take place Sunday, November 16th from 2-4 pm at Artisan’s of Hands and Heart Shop located at 106 S. Pennsylvania Ave Greensburg PA. Parking is available at metered spots along Pennsylvania ave or in the Moore & Becker parking lot located directly beside the building. Please note that meters do not need to be paid on Sundays.
